Celebrating National Doctor’s Day With One Of Our Physicians

Brad-Barton-golden-triangle-er

As the need for emergency care increases, so does the need for emergency physicians and at Golden Triangle Emergency Center, we have some of the best of these doctors.

Since it’s National Doctor’s Day, we’re going to be discussing how GTEC is different from other emergency facilities and why one of our very own physicians, Dr. Brad Barton, chose to pursue medicine.

Celebrating National Doctor's Day With One Of Our Physicians

What made you want to pursue medicine?

I have wanted to be a physician since I was about 5 years old. My father and grandfather were both physicians as well, so I guess it just runs in the family.

What’s a typical day like for you at GTEC?

Unlike most ERs, ours has a quiet and relaxed vibe right that you’ll notice when you walk in the door. Patients often see the doctor before they finish filling out the paperwork, ensuring their satisfaction. This is a result of our top notch hand-picked staff. We love our employees and they love working at GTEC. This translates to a very attentive and friendly patient interactions.

What’s the most rewarding part about working at a facility like GTEC?

The most rewarding part of working at GTEC as opposed to the hospital-based ER is that we get to really spend a lot of time with the patient so they can most accurately describe their symptoms and what happened to them. This time with the patient is exceedingly important for both their treatment and the doctor. In the overcrowded hospital-based ERs, the emphasis is on seeing as many patients as possible, which means short, abrupt conversations with your physician. At GTEC, our patients aren’t treated like just another number. We offer highly attentive and individualized care as a happy and healthy patient is the ultimate reward for us.

Golden Triangle Emergency Center has the most modern equipment available to our patients, including CT scanners, X-Ray and ultrasound, and has a completely comprehensive list of lab services. Our ER trained and experienced physicians offer a concierge-level, no-wait emergency care experience 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your health and satisfaction are our top priority.

GTEC Celebrates Major Community Honors

Golden Triangle Emergency Center is proudly celebrating several major community honors. As we recently announced both our Orange location and our Port Arthur location were voted #1 Freestanding Emergency Center in the Readers’ Choice awards held by the Beaumont Enterprise. Our Orange location also received the 2016 Community Service – Business of the Year Award, which was presented by the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce. Our Orange location won for best Freestanding Emergency Center for the first time and our Port Arthur facility won for best Freestanding Emergency Center, for its third consecutive year!

We are extremely proud of our Readers’ Choice awards because they are directly chosen by the local public that we serve. The awards also help spread the word to new patients about how to find top quality emergency medical care.

Our Port Arthur Facility was Selected Business of the Month

Our Port Arthur facility was also selected as Business of the Month during November by the Nederland Chamber of Commerce. This is also in recognition of many of the charitable and community service events discussed above in addition to our continuing commitment to providing outstanding emergency medical care. A representative of the Nederland Chamber of Commerce had this to say:

“They have supported many events in our community as well as providing wonderful medical services. We are happy to have them in our community and recognize them for their generosities of giving back to our area.”

We are honored to have received these significant honors from the communities that we serve. We look forward to continuing to provide outstanding emergency care as well as civic involvement.

GTEC Hosts Students for “Healthy Living Habits”

We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday, September 20th, Golden Triangle Emergency Center hosted a “Healthy Living Habits” field trip at our Port Arthur location. The event was attended by approximately 116 local-area 4th graders and focused on educating them about healthy habits they can incorporate into their daily lives.

The Importance of Healthy Living Habits

We are excited to share this information with the school children because healthy daily habits are truly the cornerstone of good health. Maintaining healthy habits is one of the most important things a person can do for their overall health and happiness. Everyone knows, a single exercise session or a day of healthy eating won’t solve all health problems, but over time by incorporating these activities into daily life people can ward off many diseases and live longer, healthier lives. Because of this cumulative effect that makes it all the more beneficial to get kids started early on the path of healthy daily habits.

Another major benefit of teaching kids healthy living habits is that childhood is when we form many of the habits that last a lifetime and ultimately become second nature. After all, most adults don’t think twice about getting out of bed every morning and brushing their teeth. We want to make it just as natural and easy for these kids to develop and maintain those healthy habits.

GTEC’s On-Going Commitment to Community Health

This field trip is part of GTEC’s overall commitment to helping our local community residents live the healthiest, best quality lives they can. In fact this will be the second time we’ve done a presentation for local school kids at our Port Arthur facility. Last May we also hosted a group of 4th grades. GTEC is also proud to work closely with the community for our annual charity golf tournament where all proceeds go to the United Way, health fairs, and numerous other entertaining and informative events.

GTEC Continues Flood Relief Efforts

Flooding in Deweyville Texas

Recently we discussed the devastating storms and flooding that had hit the Golden Triangle area, in particular the cities of Orange and Deweyville. While progress is definitely being made toward cleaning up the area and helping those in need there is still much to do and Golden Triangle Emergency Center is committed to helping. In particular we want to provide resources to protect the health of those who have been affected or who are helping with relief efforts.

Angela Webb, our Director of Nursing, and Kari Busch, our Director of Marketing, were recently interviewed by Nicole Murray with CBS channel 6 affiliate KFDM about GTEC’s relief efforts in the area.

Protect Yourself and Others with Tetanus Shots

One of the first pieces of advice Angela Webb offered was a reminder that anyone who had not had their tetanus shot in the last five years should get a new one to help protect themselves in others. The standing water makes the environment ripe for tetanus and the accompanying illness and infections it causes. Particularly at risk are those who are immunocompromised like the elderly, small children, or those with existing medical conditions.

As Angela Webb mentioned, GTEC has already donated about 100 tetanus shots to first responders and those in the Deweyville area who are in need. We are also always on hand, 24 hours a day, to provide shots and trauma treatment to those who have been hurt due to the flood.

Working with the Community in this Time of Need

GTEC is proud to have the opportunity to pitch in and work with our local community during this time of need. As Kari Busch discusses in the interview, GTEC is locally owned and operated and many of our employees have been personally affected by the flood. It is inspiring to see these hard working men and women coming to work each day with a smile and good attitude, eager to help others while they themselves may be living out of hotels or struggling with their own cleanup.

GTEC’s doctors and staff and their families have also been donating their time and energy toward the relief efforts and GTEC is continuing to accept donations at our facilities for those who want to give. We will make sure that donated food and goods reaches those in need. Kari Busch also emphasized the way the community was pulling together in this time of crisis with everyone from other medical facilities like Beaumont Bone & Joint to the coffee shop in Winnie to countless individuals throughout the area giving generously.

As always, if you or a loved one has been injured or sick, whether due to the flood or any other cause, rest assured that Golden Triangle Emergency Center is here for you any time of the day or night.

GTEC Is Accepting Flood Relief Donations

Recently heavy rainfall throughout Southeast Texas and the Golden Triangle Region resulted in major flooding along the Sabine River. Water levels reached historic highs and nearly 20 counties throughout the area have been affected. This in turn resulted in mandatory evacuations for thousands of people who live along the Sabine River. Especially hard hit were the towns of Deweyville and Orange.

GTEC Is Accepting Flood Relief Donations

A temporary shelter has been set up at Lamar University’s Montagne Center by the American Red Cross to house those who have been displaced and to provide emergency relief. Golden Triangle Emergency Center is currently accepting donations of relief items and is coordinating with First Responders to ensure that the donated goods reach those who are in need. Donations can be made at either our Orange or Mid-County locations.

GTEC Provides Emergency Medical Treatment

Our hearts go out to everyone in our community and the surrounding area who has been affected by this devastating flood. As always, GTEC is also providing emergency medical treatment during this time of need. We can help care for wounds and other flood-related, or non-flood related, injuries.

With the high waters animals have also been displaced such as alligators and snakes. We encourage everyone to take extra precautions to stay safe during this trying time. Make sure to treat wounds and any other injuries promptly to avoid infections. Remember not to neglect care for on-going conditions or chronic illnesses. Golden Triangle Emergency Center is committed to helping everyone in our community stay safe and healthy. Together we can overcome this emergency. Please consider donating relief items at either of locations in Orange or Mid-County if you are able.

Golden Triangle Emergency Center Hosts First Responders’ Dinner

Recently Golden Triangle Emergency Center, in conjunction with Total Care, had the opportunity to sponsor a special first responders’ dinner. This special event was designed to honor all first responders in the area for their hard work and dedication to keeping the Golden Triangle and Southeast Texas region safe.

More Details About the First Responders’ Dinner

The event took place on Tuesday, March 1st at the MCM Eleganté Hotel and lasted from 6:30pm till 10:30pm. All first responders and their families ate for free. Golden Triangle Emergency Center is committed to serving the health and emergency medical needs of our community. However, without the tireless work of our area’s first responders we would not be able to be as effective.

The event was a great success! Check out these pictures from the memorable evening.
